Day 61 : mile 1448

Left butney falls early this morning for a pretty hot walk towards mt shasta.

Day 59 : mile 1383, hat creek rim

David drove us to Drakesbad early this morning. We walked through Lassen National Park and the down the Hat Creek Drainage. 

Subway cave was nice and cool.

First view of shasta was spectacular.










Day 58 : cabin zero

We ate a lot of food, went swimming, went fishing, and heated up the sauna for the first time!

Day 57: mile 1348, cabin

Today I walked the the remaining 9 miles to Drakesbad and then down the road to the cabin. I had never actually walked on the PCT from Domingo Springs to Terminal Gyser, and it is a nice section.






Day 56 : mile 1338, North Fork of the Feather

It feels good to be camped on the NorthFork  of the Feather River. Tomorrow morning I'll be at the cabin!

Day 55 : mile 1305

We hike 8 miles into Belden this morning, and then resupplied and got a huge breakfast. The climb out of Belden was hot, but the were numerous creeks to dunk your head in.








Day 54 : Mile 1278, Three Lakes Basin

After beautiful hike out of the canyon of the middle fork, we are camped at a somewhat dry three lakes basin. Went for a nice swim though.

Day 53 : mile 1247, Middle fork of the Feather

It was a beautiful day in the sierra. We descended all the way to 2900 feet, and the middle fork of the feather. The swimming was spectacular, and I caught three rainbows to go with a boletus revexis I found, the first bolete of the trip!










Day 52 : mile 1215, summer solstice

We hiked out of Sierra City around noon, and up the Sierra Buttes. This evening we are camped at an ideal spot to watxh sunset of the summer solstice. 










Day 51 : mile 1195, sierra city

Today we decended into sierra city. It was the first time going below 6000 feet in a long time, and the trees have changed drmatically since kennedy meadows. There are doug firs, sugar pines, and incense cedars.










Day 50 : mile 1164, paradise valley

After a spectacular sunrise at the top of alping meadows, we had a pleasant walk around squaw valley and then through donner pass. The meadows of mules ear and lupine were spectacular. We crossed I80, the first interstate in a long time.



I caught a glimpse of mt lassen from the near tinker knob.

Day 49 : mile 1133, alpine meadows

We had a warm day hiking in the mountains around Lake Tahoe. 

Camping tonight on the top of alpine meadows. Looks different without the snow.
